The UC Capitals bid to pack out the fortress
The reigning champions are returning the WNBL playoffs to Canberra as they chase back-to-back titles.
The UC Capitals secured home court advantage after finishing second on the ladder and will face the third-placed Melbourne Boomers in a best of three semi-final series. This means that Game 1 and 3 (if a third is required) will be held in Canberra.
Having only lost one game at home this season, Canberra is notoriously the toughest road trip in the league with the crowd known as the Capitals’ “sixth player”.
As finals fever began to rev up toward the business end of the regular season, the UC Capitals achieved their highest attendance at the National Convention Centre thanks to 1687 fans.
The UC Capitals are now moving back to the AIS Arena where the team’s eight championship banners hang over the court where WNBL history has been made.
General Manager of the UC Capitals, Lucille Bailie, says that Canberra is part of the team’s winning formula.
“The atmosphere when the AIS Arena is full of loud and spirited fans is incredible, and we know the team really feeds off that energy. We hope to see Canberra turn it up for the UC Caps as they did during last year’s finals campaign.”
