The University of Canberra Capitals have kept their finals hopes alive after a 25 point victory over the Bendigo Spirit.
In a high stakes game that would see the loser eliminated from playoff contention, the UC Capitals held there nerve to seal the win 77 to 52.
After going in to the half-time break with a seven point lead the UC Caps exploded in the third quarter, outscoring the Spirit 24 points to four.
Despite leaving the court in the third quarter after a hard foul, Abbey Wehrung was the star of the show.
In just 20 minutes of action she was the game’s leading point scorer with 18, made five three pointers from six attempts and had two assists and a block.
Marianna Tolo continued her recent hot form, scoring 14 points and collecting 10 rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
In order for the UC Capitals to break their five year finals drought, they must win their remaining two games.
It will be a short turnaround for the girls from the nation’s capital, as they take on Adelaide at home on Thursday night before travelling to Townsville in what could decide who takes the last place in the finals.
