U.S Import Nicole Munger signs on with the UC Capitals
The UC Capitals are thrilled to announce the signing of U.S import Nicole Munger, who has been described as a “blessing in disguise” by Head Coach Kristen Veal.
The U.S import came to Australia in June after playing in Europe and has been working towards the goal of a WNBL contract and will be making her debut for the UC Capitals on Wednesday night up against Adelaide Lightning.
If it wasn’t for the time difference, she may have ended up in Europe again instead of with the UC Capitals.
“It’s just unbelievable,” Nicole said.
“When she [Veal] offered me the opportunity to train I jumped at it but then I had something pop up in Europe and I called Coach and she said ‘I need you to just trust me and come’… I came here and now I’m a Cap.
“Everything happens for a reason and timing is such a big part of that and I am just so thankful.
“The girls are great and they’ve welcomed me with open arms. It’s been a whirlwind but I’m just so grateful to be here.”
Team Captain of the University of Michigan women’s basketball team, Nicole graduated in 2019 as a 1000 point scorer.
In 2021, the 25-year-old played in Spain, for Canary Island first professional women’s sport team. She spent the most recent WNBL off season with the Newcastle Falcons in the NBL1, averaging 25.67 points per game and 11.17 rebounds.
“Nicole is a blessing in disguise,” Veal said.
“She was always going to come in and just help us be better and bring in a genuinely helpful, humble, hardworking player within the group.
“That is really important for the group moving forward.”
