The Chemist Warehouse WNBL has rescheduled the UC Capitals versus Perth Lynx game for 7PM, January 22 at the National Convention Centre Canberra (NCCC).

The game, originally due to be played on January 5, was cancelled as a result of smoke caused by the NSW bushfires impacting the air quality inside AIS Arena.

The UC Capitals will dedicate the rescheduled game to bushfire relief, committing $2 to the Red Cross for every person in attendance.

General Manager of the UC Capitals, Lucille Bailie, said that it was important to the club to reschedule the game and use it as an opportunity to make a difference.

“We wanted to make sure our fans saw another exciting match up at home where we know our UC Capitals play their best.

“It is a privilege for the UC Caps and local community to play our part in supporting those impacted by the recent bushfires and we know our supporters will rally behind this initiative to provide help for people get back on their feet.

“We learn about supporting our mates and handling adversity in sport and we’ve been inspired by the mateship and spirit people have shown throughout the recent bushfire crisis,” said Ms Bailie.

Head of Women in Basketball, Lauren Jackson, said the league and both teams were extremely dedicated in getting a rescheduled game confirmed as soon as possible.

“We’re happy to be have been able to organise another time for the fans and members to come out and support the Caps and Lynx,” Jackson said.

“The fact the rescheduled game will also be dedicated to raising funds for the bushfires is an incredible initiative and we hope the WNBL community will get involved with such an important cause.”

The rescheduled match will align with the final game of the Kia Nurse and Kelsey Griffin pledge to donate $5 from every UC Capitals point over five games to bushfire relief.

The UC Capitals are united with Canberra’s major sporting teams and codes, including Basketball ACT, the Brumbies and Canberra Raiders, to provide support for those impacted by the bushfires as part of the #WeAreOne initiative announced earlier this week.

Ticket information for the game will be announced as soon as possible. All UC Capitals members will automatically receive entry to the game via their membership cards.
