UC Capitals get big recognition!
UC Capitals players have been recognised for their outstanding work over the off-season at the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) awards luncheon over the weekend.
Kelly Wilson won the ‘Golden Hands’ award for her league leading 11.8 assists and impressive third place on the total steals ladder. This included an enormous 22 assist game in the final round and an assist total more than double the runner-up. Kelly was also recognised in the SEABL first team as she lead the Bendigo Lady Braves to an undefeated regular season record.
Lauren Scherf was also recognised with a first team nod, largely in part due to leading the league in rebounding at 13.9 per game. When she wasn’t ‘cleaning the glass’ she was keeping the scoreboard ticking over, finishing 4th in the league in scoring. Unfortunately, Lauren sustained an injury and will be unable to take part in the SEABL finals series. She is expected to be back in time for the WNBL season tip off.
Finally, Keely Froling was unlucky not to be named in the 1st team after leading the Canberra Capitals Academy to a competitive season despite multiple major injuries. Keely averaged a double-double of 19 points and a tick under 13 rebounds per game and was named to the All-SEABL second team.
Wilson and UC Capitals point guard Maddison Rocci will be pushing for a spot in the Grand Final for the Lady Braves and Diamond Valley respectively.
