October 23, 2017 | UC Capitals news

The University of Canberra Capitals were valiant in defeat going down to the Dandenong Rangers in the dying seconds 76-77, last Sunday afternoon.

The UC Capitals are now two from five after a turbulent last two weeks, sitting on sixth placed ahead of their Round 4 games this week.

The UC Capitals began the first quarter against Dandenong with plenty of attack, with Abbey Wehrung securing 8pts along with captain Nat Hurst with 3 assists. The home side went into the second quarter in the lead, 24-18.

The visitors hit back in the second quarter with forward Sara Blicavs heating up the floor, putting pressure on fan favourites Mistie Bass and Lauren Scherf. Dandenong continued to compete for possession and closed the gap against the UC Capitals heading into the break, 44-42.

The third quarter provided plenty of entertainment for fans as both teams strived for points with Lauren Scherf on fire collecting the net numerous times to keep the UC Capitals with a 7pt lead heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

All eyes were on the clock in the last quarter, with the UC Capitals leading with three minutes to play, until Dandenong regained the lead twice.

The UC Capitals held a one-point lead with 4.8 seconds left on the clock and the game came down to the final Rangers’ possession in which Laia Palau shot the lucky last two-points in the dying moment of the match.

After a nail-biting weekend, the UC Capitals will look towards another road trip for the second time this season on Wednesday as they take on Adelaide before their next home game this Friday at the National Convention Centre.
