The University of Canberra Capitals have won Team of The Year at the 2019 CBR Sports Awards.

2019 has been a big year for sport in Canberra already, with the Raiders making it to their first grand final in 25 years and the Brumbies finishing third. But it was hard to look past Canberra’s most successful national sporting team who notched their eighth championship at the AIS Arena in February.

This is the first time the UC Capitals have won Team of The Year since the annual awards event first started.

UC Capitals co-captain, Marianna Tolo, said that the team is so honoured to win team of the year.

“It was 9 long years between championships. Not only do we have our players to thank, but all our staff, volunteers, sponsors, fans and media for making the championship possible.  We hope we have inspired the next generation of basketballers and also the next Team of the Year.”
