UC Capitals Round 10 Review

December 13, 2017 | UC Capitals news

In their first home match in almost a month, the UC Capitals fell short to an outstanding Sydney Uni Flames outfit, last Thursday evening, 67-73.

The first quarter provided plenty of excitement in the capital with Keely Froling opting for an early three points to get the home team on the board. Mistie Bass was also a standout coming off the bench to top-score for the UC Capitals with six points in the first quarter. The home side ended the first ten minutes trailing by 2 points, 17-19.

The UC Capitals continued to make their mark on the scoreboard in the second quarter due to impressive displays by Nat Hurst with four assists, Rachel Jarry with one steal and Bass who was the leading point scorer on 11 points at the end of the first half. Heading into the second half the UC Capitals were out in front, 35-30.

The second-half boosted the UC Capitals momentum after a marvellous side-stepping display from Abbey Wehrung to get herself another two points while seconds later she was joined by Jordan Hooper with a theatrical three-pointer. The UC Capitals went into the final ten minutes holding onto their lead, 53-50.

With the game heating up the UC Capitals struggled to match their first half-performance going down by six points in the dying seconds of the match.

Fast forward to their second match in Round 10, as the UC Capitals escaped with a dramatic win, in a nail-bitter against Dandenong Rangers on Saturday night, 78-81.

The first quarter saw the UC Capitals take a 26-18 lead going into the first break with impressive performance by Jordan Hooper who topped the leading point scorer with eight points along with Mistie Bass and Abbey Wehrung both with four points each.

However, late in the first quarter Rachel Jarry, left the court due to a concussion concern, but has since tweeted to her fans that she is feeling much better. We’re glad to know she’s feeling better after some rest and wish her a healthy recovery!

Scores continued to lock up four times during the second quarter as Jordan Hooper scored nine points to take both teams in a tie ahead of the half-time break, 45-45.

The third quarter saw the UC Capitals build on their early game performance with Abbey Wehrung scoring an early triple that saw the crowd on their feet. The UC Capitals went into the final ten minutes ahead by one point, 61-62.

The Dandenong Rangers continued to fire at the basket with the UC Capitals up by one point in the final 14 seconds of play before a late three-pointer steered by Jordan Hooper and Nat Hurst to secure the game.

It is the UC Capitals first win since they went back-to-back on opening weekend of the 2017/18 WNBL season, two months ago.
