UC Caps say fond goodbye to Rocci
The UC Capitals would like to wish Maddi Rocci all the best following her announcement with the Southside Flyers ahead of WNBL21-22.
Rocci was signed to the UC Caps as a rookie ahead of the 2017 WNBL season and developed into a star, capped off by her season in the condensed hub format of WNBL20 where she was named team MVP and voted 4th in league MVP voting. She averaged a team leading 16 points per game and displayed her usual trademark defence and hustle. She was elevated to the Australian Opals extended roster and attended 2 camps as a reward for her hard work and production.
Rocci, popular with Caps fans for her ability to relate to young fans and the general community, will be sorely missed by all in Canberra. UC capitals head coach Paul Goriss is disappointed to lose her, but wishes her all the best.
“We would like to thank Maddi for her contribution to the success of the Caps over the past years. Maddi came to us as a rookie in 2017 and has grown enormously during her time here. She worked her way to be a starter in a one championship and was a vital piece in another. Her work ethic, improvement and development has seen her become an Opals squad member which is a reward for all of her hard work. We have seen Maddi continue to develop and grow with us and we are disappointed that she has chosen to leave and know that she will be missed by the team, the fans, and the basketball community in Canberra. We wish her all the best.”
Rocci will suit up the current league champion the Southside Flyers where she will be replacing Opals point guard Leilani Mitchell as the starting point guard. Good luck Maddi and thanks for the memories!
