Women’s summer sport launch highlights Canberra’s three teams in elite national competitions
The UC Capitals, Canberra United and the ACT Meteors have launched the women’s summer of sport, as all three teams prepare to host their first game of their 2023/24 seasons in the nation’s capital.
Joining forces to highlight Canberra’s women’s teams in elite national competitions, UC Capitals player Abby Solway said it’s great to come together to showcase the talent of the athletes.
“Doing things like this and getting together and allowing women to empower women and getting out to watch each other is so important,” she said.
“It’s a really exciting time to be involved and watch women’s sport.”
The ACT Meteors play their second round of Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) matches this weekend, hosting the reigning champion Tasmanian Tigers on Sunday and next Tuesday at EPC Solar Park in Phillip. The UC Capitals are ready to tip off their campaign on November 5 at the National Convention Centre Canberra and Canberra United’s ALeague Women’s season starting October 15, the clubs will also be offering fans the opportunity to experience each other’s game days.
The UC Capitals will provide free entry to Canberra United members for Rounds 8 and 14, when the Caps go up against Adelaide Lightning and the Sydney Flames,
Canberra United will invite and Caps members to attend games at no cost in Rounds 9 and 15, when United hosts the Central Coast Mariners and Melbourne City.
Solway said there’s plenty of love to go around.
“This gives everyone a chance to get out and watch women’s sport. We’ve got a lot of options here in Canberra, between cricket soccer, and basketball, and what a way to get out and embrace the warm weather and have some nice food and enjoy some good entertainment.”
