WNBL Hub FAQs

Why is the 2020 Chemist Warehouse WNBL 2020 season being played in North Queensland?

Due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19 and the interstate travel restrictions residents of Victoria in particular are currently experiencing, in order for a season to be able to go ahead, the decision was made to host the season out of one centralised location.

North Queensland provided an opportunity for the league to connect to the local community in ways that haven’t been possible previously, by playing games in Mackay and Cairns, along with Townsville where the Townsville Fire are based.

When will a season fixture be released?

The 2020 Chemist Warehouse WNBL season fixture has been released and can be viewed by clicking here.

When does the WNBL season start and end?

The current format of the season would commence mid-November and conclude just prior to Christmas 2020, making the season just under six weeks in length.

What does that mean for members of non-Queensland teams?

The WNBL has been working closely with non-Queensland based teams to offer additional benefits within memberships which otherwise would have included tickets to attend matches locally. Please contact your team directly to enquire as to what membership packages and inclusions are available, as these differ from team to team.

What will the finals series look like?

Due to the shortened format of the season, the finals series will be a four-game series. The top four teams on the ladder at the conclusion of the regular season qualify for the finals series.

In the first week of the finals series, the 1st ranked team hosts the 2nd ranked team in the major semi-final (with the winner of that match to qualify for the Grand Final) and the 3rd ranked team hosts the 4th ranked team in the minor semi-final (with the loser of that match eliminated). The loser of the major semi-final then hosts the winner of the minor semi-final in the preliminary final. The winner of the major semi-final then hosts the winner of the preliminary final in the Grand Final.

Further information regarding finals series will be released closer to the time.
