PERTH & BENDIGO MATCH UPDATE

March 17, 2022 | WNBL news

The match between the Perth Lynx and Bendigo Spirit, which was postponed from the original date of Saturday 12 February, has now been cancelled.

The game was unable to go ahead due to Perth being reduced to six (6) athletes (due to COVID and injury). Per league COVID protocols, the league worked with both teams to seek a suitable date, time and location to play the game. Please note that only games that fall under the league COVID protocols have the ability to be postponed.

Due to the condensed nature of the final few rounds of the season providing limited availability, a suitable date to reschedule was not able to be found. Per the protocols, this means the game will be cancelled, no result will be recorded, and the game will not be included in the end of season win/loss percentage.

This will mean that both the Perth Lynx and the Bendigo Spirit will complete the 21-22 WNBL season on 16-games, while all other teams will finish on 17-games. The league recognises this is not an ideal outcome, however given the severe impact of COVID on games, having teams finish the season on an uneven amount of games, while ideally avoided, was always a possibility, and has been acknowledged by all Clubs.

Per existing competition rules, the WNBL ladder and final standings will continue to be determined by the percentage of games won.
