THE WRAP – ROUND 11

January 23, 2023 | WNBL news

Another sizzling round of hoops in the Cygnett WNBL! Round 11 saw some brilliant standout performances, with the top four looking tight as we steamroll towards finals!

Flyers hold off Flames in a thriller

What a game of Wednesday night WNBL! Despite being a head coach and starting point guard down, the Flames were firing! Tiana Mangakahia put the Flames on her back and dropped a massive 26 points, five rebounds, eight assists and three steals in an epic 40-minute performance. It was a tight and physical contest the whole game but a vintage 30-point masterclass from the GOAT, Lauren Jackson held off the Flames by just five points!

Maley gets fourth consecutive double-double

Reigning MVP, Anneli Maley is having a blinder of a season! The Bendigo star is consistently putting up big numbers week in and week out. Round 11 was no exception, with Maley getting 18 points, 12 rebounds against UC Capitals and 17 points, 12 rebounds against Melbourne. This means Maley has now gotten her fourth consecutive double-double, and ninth for the season, incredible!

Full team hits the scoreboard

Despite going down to Bendigo on Thursday night, the UC Capitals had all eight players hit the scoreboard, including DPs, Abby Solway (3 points) and Chloe Tugliach (10 points) who both got their first WNBL points!

Samuelson leads Townsville to the W

Townsville got an important win over Adelaide on Friday which takes the Fire to their third consecutive win. Karlie Samuelson went NEXT LEVEL on the scoreboard, knocking down a massive 29 points! Tianna Hawkins was also huge with a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds. The win locks Townsville in fourth position on the ladder for another week.

Perth makes a statement

The Lynx have certainly sent a message to the rest of the competition after Round 11. Now on a five-game win streak, Perth are on a roll and determined to get that final spot in the top four. Sami Whitcomb continues to set the standard, getting 19 points and seven rebounds against Sydney and yet another Team of the Week appearance.

Froling has a massive first half

Keely Froling was clearly raring to go in the game against Perth with a 20-10 double-double first half performance! The captain finished the game with 23 points and 13 rebounds.

Bendigo gets one back over Melbourne

Fans were treated to a fantastic Sunday afternoon contest at the Boom Box. The visitors ended the third term trailing by six points, but a fourth quarter blitz saw Bendigo come out on top by just five points! Cayla George and Tiffany Mitchell were strong for the Boomers, but Maley, Alex Wilson, Kelly Wilson and Abby Wehrung were all superb for Bendigo.
