Boomers In Action – Weekly Wrap

April 29, 2018 | Melbourne Boomers news

Another big week for the Deakin Melbourne Boomers with players in action across the globe.

While Steph Talbot, Cayla George and Lindsay Allen were heading to their respective WNBA training camps, Maddie Garrick was also overseas and enjoying some great form in China with the Australian 3×3 team.

The Aussies started the tournament well and remain unbeaten after the first few days of competition. Garrick’s hot form comes on the back of her efforts with Monique Conti, Chloe Molloy and Jasmine Simmons at the 3×3 Pro Hustle the previous week.

The Boomers finished the opening Pro Hustle tournament last week as runners-up.

Over in the west, Ash Grant continued her great form with 17pts @ 72%, 8rbs, 2ast, 3stl and 2blk in 23min to help her Lakeside Lightning deliver a smashing 109-39 win against East Perth. The young forward is averaging 18pts and 10rbs per game this season.

Monique Conti couldn’t get a win for Melbourne in SEABL, but she certainly did all she could to lead her team. On Saturday night Conti went for 22pts, 10rbs, 2ast, 4stl and 3 treys against Diamond Valley, before delivering 15pts, 5rbs, 4ast and 3 treys in a 6pt loss to Canberra on Sunday.

On Saturday, Conti found herself up against good friend Ezi Magbegor (Diamond Valley) and playing in front of a number of Boomers owners and front office staff. Magbegor won the day, the Eagles winning by 3pts with Ezi leading the way with 22pts, 8rbs, 3stl and 1blk.

Staying in the SEABL, Chelsea D’Angelo moved back into the starting line-up for Kilsyth and went for 11pts and 5rbs in the Cobras easy 24pt win against Dandenong.
