Emerging Boomers Continue To Shine

The Deakin Melbourne Boomers might be out of playoff contention, but it hasn't stopped the iconic club from continuing to do what it does best - develop and showcase young talent. In recent weeks Boomers fans have seen the emergence of young guard Bec Ott (Knox), a product of the Knox Basketball Association, while Kasey Burton (Ballarat) is another young player who has continued to take big steps forward in her burgeoning WNBL career. On Australia Day Eve, Chelsea D'Angelo (Traralgon) suited up for her first WNBL game, while the Boomers have just announced that Cassidy Gould (Altona) will be in uniform for her WNBL debut this Saturday night against Bendigo. Renowned for developing young talent in the WNBL, Boomers coach Guy Molloy believes it is important to continue giving tomorrow's stars the chance to progress their game in an elite-level program. "We're continuing to see the emergence of Monique Conti (Melbourne) in her debut season, she has worked so hard for her opportunities and is really coming on quickly, which is great to see," said Molloy. "Everyone at the Boomers is also really impressed with the progress being made by Bec Ott and Kasey Burton, while the opportunity to see a couple of our development players in Chelsea D'Angelo and Cassidy Gould step out for the first time in a WNBL game is exciting." "All five players are local talents, they have come through the Victorian basketball system, representing clubs and associations locally, and that's something we are really excited by. At the Boomers we have a veryÊstrong focus of connecting the grassroots with the elite, so it's very encouraging to see that working so well," added Molloy.
