CANBERRA VS PERTH GAME TODAY – POSTPONED

The WNBL Semi Final game between the UC Capitals and the Perth Lynx, scheduled to be played at 5pm today (Sunday 27 March), has been postponed due to an outbreak of COVID within the Capitals camp. It was game two of the best of three, Perth having won the first earlier in the week 91-77.

The UC Capitals have a number of team members who have tested positive to COVID, and others who are symptomatic and awaiting results (under ACT Government COVID Guidelines these athletes are not able to leave isolation until a negative PCR result is received).

This therefore has resulted in the team not being able to field the required number of athletes per the WNBL COVID Finals Protocols – that being seven (7) – to take the court today.

Per the WNBL COVID Finals Protocols, the priority of any Finals series is to play it as a best of three. However should that not be possible it can be played as a best of two, then as a single game.

WNBL 21-22 is currently scheduled to be finished by Easter, a date agreed by league and Clubs (based on a number of factors, including WNBA athletes needing to be released at this time).

Given that, the Semi Final series between the UC Capitals and the Perth Lynx will be reduced to a two-game series (with the winner determined per FIBA rules which is by points spread), the details of game two to be announced in the coming days.

The WNBL Grand Final will remain as a three-game series, again with revised dates being released in the coming days.
