KNOW YOUR FLYERS: STEPH BLICAVS

November 4, 2020 | Southside Flyers news

Steph Blicavs is BACK on court this season after achieving her greatest success to date, welcoming baby son Arlo last year.

Arlo has quickly become a mini mascot for the Flyers and will find an instant buddy in Kash, Leilani Mitchell’s two-year old son, during the QLD-based season.

Steph’s stellar Chemist Warehouse WNBL career has included successful stints with the Dandenong Rangers (her junior club) and Townsville Fire, winning championships with both, and the Adelaide Lightning. She was a key member of Adelaide’s team in 2018-19 guiding her team to a finals berth and into a Grand Final series.

A prolific scorer, her consistency was reflected in the statistical leaders of the past decade released at the close of 2019. Steph was the second highest scorer in the 10-year-period behind six-time league MVP Suzy Batkovic. She is also a renowned defensive stopper as recognized by her 2016 Defensive Player Of The Year award, stepping up and guarding the best opposition wings throughout her career.

Steph stepped away from the game after the 2018-19 WNBL season to have Arlo with husband Kris Blicavs, the brother of teammate Sara Blicavs. Now a part of the famous Blicavs family of basketballers, she has settled into Geelong with Kris & Arlo and was set to play with the Supercats in the NBL1 before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Cheryl Chambers on Steph:
“We have all seen how good a player she is and importantly she is a quality person. I am really looking forward to what she will bring to the team, especially her ability to light up the score board and I am really excited that she wants to return to the WNBL with the Flyers.”
