Southside Unable To Overcome Fast-Starting Boomers – Flyers Round Two Recap

December 13, 2021 | Southside Flyers news

Despite our Southsiders best efforts we were unable to claw back an early Melbourne Boomers lead on Saturday night, ultimately falling 91-72 in our first road outing.

From the jump the ball just seemed to bounce the way of the Boomers as they outscored us by 19 points in the first half with the potent import duo of Tiffany Mitchell and Lindsay Allen wreaking havoc on offense.

They were joined by fellow Boomers wing Tess Madgen who also put pressure on the Flyers defense, with all three scoring 20+ points and shooting more than 50% from the field. This likely left Flyers Family members scratching their heads after the game with many expecting the focus to be on forwards Cayla George and Ezi Magbegor; instead it was that wing trio hurting us throughout the night.

On offense our Flyers just couldnt quite find their flow on the night, the Boomers fast start making every Southside possession increasingly important. That pressure was reflected in the box score post-game as we shot just 5-20 from 3PT range and 38% overall from the field.

We saw strong outings from Maddy Rocci and Abby Bishop in the contest with both getting to their spots and converting, Rocci also getting her teammates involved with five assists. But the rest of the Flyers struggled from the field shooting just 28% overall.
