Coach Heal calls for Keely Froling to be an Opal

Brydens Sydney Uni Flames coach Shane Heal has called for Keely Froling to be an Opal.

The four-time Olympian himself has called for his superstar forward Keely Froling to be back in consideration for Opals in the wake of her outstanding performances in the WNBL.

In the past three games of the Flames win streak she is averaging 23 points and 13.3 rebounds, including a monster 30 point and 22 rebound performance over the premiership contending Perth Lynx.

Coach Heal has been vocal on social media saying: “What does Keely Froling have to do to prove she is an Opal?”

Flames guard Shyla Heal was the only Flame to make the Opal team that was selected to play in the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers in Serbia.

After the game against the Bendigo Spirit, where Froling scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Megan Hustwaite asked Shane Heal to sum up Keely Froling.

“Opal,” he said.

“She is an Opal, I really feel like it. She has that toughness and grit that the Opals stand for and she’s developed for game.

“She’s the leader of our team, Lauren Mansfield is still out and two Americans out and she’s stood up.”

Keely Froling told Hustwaite post-game that it’s been a tough season but the Flames will not go down without a fight.

“We’ve had a really tough run,” Froling said,

“But to go three in a row against and win against a really good Bendigo team, we fought right to the end, it was just awesome.”

Keely Froling and the Flames only have two home games left this week. They will play the Perth Lynx on Wednesday, March 16 at 6 pm at Brydens Stadium. With our last game of the season coming on Sunday, March 20 against the Bendigo Spirit at 2 pm.
