Flames defeat defending champs Boomers in trial match
The Sydney Flames continued their impressive WNBL23 pre-season on Monday afternoon, by defeating the WNBL defending champions the Melbourne Boomers 86-54 in a trial match.
At Melbourne’s State Basketball Centre, the Hoops Capital side was led by American import Hannah Sjerven, who top-scored with 19 points, to go along with nine rebounds, three assists and one steal.

Others to score in double-figures for Shane Heal’s side were Jocelyn Willoughby (16 points and five rebounds), Shyla Heal (13 points and six dimes), Vanessa Panousis (12 points and three boards) and skipper Keely Froling (10 points and 10 rebounds).
As a team, other key statistical wins for the Flames – who produced 22 assists compared to just seven turnovers – came in field goal percentage (40.3 to 35.1), free-throw percentage (73.3-58.8), points off turnovers (15-5), second-chance points (18-8), fast-break points (8-1) and bench points (21-3).

The Flames return to the court at 2pm AEDT Tuesday, when they’ll face the Southside Flyers in their final trial match at Parkville.
