Sydney Flames thank Flames Captain Cayla George

Sydney Flames would like to thank Cayla George for her two years of service to the club, after it was mutually agreed between George and the Club not to extend the third-year mutual option.
Flame #216 George, who helped the Australian Opals win a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, has made a significant contribution to the Sydney Flames and Hoops Capital, most recently leading the team to the 2024/25 playoffs for the first time in seven years.
Flames coach Guy Molloy highlighted the impact the WNBL23 MVP made on the club across her two seasons and wished her all the best in her future endeavours.
“As a club, we can’t thank Cayla enough for the contribution she has made, both on and off the court, in helping rebuild the Flames and achieve step one on our journey, which was making the semi-finals,” Molloy said.
“I’ve enjoyed the past two seasons with Cayla, and we wish her all the best at the next stop on her amazing basketball journey.”
Executive Director and co-owner of Hoops Capital Matthew Denholm acknowledged George’s contribution to the team and community.
“Cayla is a great athlete and leader within the community. On behalf of the ownership group, we thank her for her contribution to the club over the past two seasons.”
In the 24/25 season, George became the first player to ever secure 3,500 career rebounds, as well as becoming the fourth player to reach 5,000 career points. George, who was recognised at the Hoops Capital awards night in February with the club’s Outstanding Achievement Award, has expressed her gratitude to the club and Sydney fans.
“I would like to thank Robyn, Victoria, Chris and Guy for past two years and for welcoming not only myself but my family into the Club. I have loved being a part of the growth of the Flames program and I wish them all the best moving forward”
