Garlepp’s Sapphires win gold medal at Oceania Cup

Sydney Flames assistant coach Renae Garlepp has guided the Australian Sapphires team to the gold medal at the under 15s Oceania Cup in Canberra.
Through the pool stages, Flame #149 Garlepp and her green and gold side defeated Guam (123-27), Samoa (94-34) and New Zealand (71-68) to qualify for the finals.
Australia then easily accounted for Tonga (119-20) in the semi-final, to set up a decider against New Zealand.

In the grand final, Australia stepped it up a notch and won 93-44 to secure the gold medal.
Following her return to Sydney, Garlepp said she thoroughly enjoyed the experience in the nation’s capital.
“It was an incredibly special experience,” Garlepp said.
“Not just the gold medal, but the entire journey that led us to that success.
“Working with such talented, driven, and passionate young athletes was inspiring.
“It was amazing to witness their growth, both individually and collectively, and to see them embody the values of teamwork and resilience.”

Garlepp’s Flames now go interstate for a two-game road trip, starting with Adelaide on November 20, followed by Perth on November 23.
The Flames’ next home game in on Saturday, November 30 at Quaycentre against Geelong for the first time – tipping off at 4.45pm.
