Swain set to make Flames debut against Flyers

Sydney Flames young gun Shaneice Swain will make her long-awaited club debut on Thursday against the Southside Flyers.
The Australian Opals guard, who has been out since the pre-season due to a stress fracture in her foot, has been working hard during the rehabilitation process and is now excited to finally hit the hardwood with her new team.
“No doubt, it was tough at the start, especially just arriving in Sydney with my new team and wanting to contribute,” Swain said.
“But I’ve dealt with a few injuries before, so I just concentrated on using the time to improve my game in different aspects, such as strength in the gym.
“Although it was a long time to be out – with the middle part being particularly annoying, as the team was on the road a lot and there was a lot of time by myself – it’s all behind me now and the hard work had paid off.
“I’m now very excited to put on that Flames jersey for the first time and play.”

Swain, who was taken with the 14th pick in last year’s WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks, will become Flames #223 when she enters the play against the Flyers at Quaycentre.
With 62 games already to her name in the WNBL (after a stint with Canberra), the 21-year-old Cairns product knows what she can bring to Guy Molloy’s line-up this season – as the Flames chase a finals berth.
“I feel I can bring a different look to our side, with my creativity and ability to score,” said Swain, who attended the 2023 Nike Hoops Summit in Portland, United States.
“The main thing for me is trying to make my teammates better and helping our team win.”
Tickets to Thursday’s crucial fixture, tipping off at 7.45pm AEDT, are still available here.
