Sydney Flames’ Hardest Working Player Named in NBL1 Starting Five

May 7, 2025 | Sydney Flames news

Sydney Flame #223 Carla Pitman has been dominant in the NBL1, securing several impressive wins alongside being awarded the Anzac Day medal, named NBL1 player of the week and named in the starting five for NBL1.

Pitman’s exciting performances come off the back of her first fully rostered season with the Sydney Flames in the 2024/25 season, as the Flames development player the year prior and hailing from the Harvey Norman Future Flames program.

“My development pathway has significantly improved the way I play. I am continuously trying to add new things to my game and being part of the Flames has been a big part of it.”

“After my first season, I gained so much experience and I am feeling more confident than ever, which has helped me grow as a player.”

That confidence and growth is dominant in her game. Just last week, Pitman was awarded the Women’s Play of the Week on Anzac Day, scoring 25 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. She also smashed a triple-double in her team’s 113-69 defeat of the Sutherland Sharks, with 16 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists and 1 steal.

Pitman shared the importance of playing and representing her community on an important day like Anzac Day.

“Basketball brings people together, and being part of events like the Anzac Day game is a great way to show respect and connection with the community. It’s an honour to be awarded the Anzac Day medal. It means a lot to be recognised, especially on such a meaningful day to so many people. ”

Pitman’s work ethic and passion was recognised at the Hoops Capital Awards night earlier in the year, being awarded co-defensive player of the year sponsored by AAMI, the Coaches Award, and the Hard Yakka Hardest Working Player Award.

“This recognition meant a lot to me because as a young player it can be hard to know how you are going and where you stand in the team. It really validated the hard work I put in, and it motivated me to continue improving.”

Pitman’s Norths Bears team has been putting on a show, highlighting the talent and skill available this NBL1 season.

“The NBL1 league is on such a rise. It’s so exciting to see so many WNBL and NBL players playing every week, showcasing the talent we have in Australia. The local club atmosphere is amazing and is a great experience for all.”

With her recent impressive performances, Pitman is certainly a hot contender for the NBL1 East MVP race.
