October 28, 2024 | Sydney Flames news

The Sydney Flames are excited to unveil Cayla George as their captain for the upcoming WNBL25 season.

Coach Guy Molloy and his coaching staff believed three-time Olympian George, who is entering her second season in Sydney, was the obvious choice to lead this campaign’s revamped Hoops Capital side on and off the court.

“Cayla was the obvious captain candidate for this group, thanks to her nurturing nature but also her status in the game and the respect she has among her peers,” said Molloy, who announced the news to his squad during the recent trip to Townsville.

“Few in Australian basketball have achieved what she has during her career and this year presents an amazing opportunity for our younger players to learn from Cayla.

“She is in a much better situation, both mentally and physically, and I feel we are going to see her have an amazing season, leading our success on and off the court.”

Flame 216 George, who won the WNBL23 MVP award, is thrilled to be named the skipper of the harbour city side.

“Regardless of if I had the title of captain or not, I feel like my approach would be the same,” George said.

“I love to use my experience to help and guide these younger players and we definitely have a much younger group this season.

“In saying that, being named captain is really exciting.

“We are all leaders in our own way and If I can help empower everyone to be a leader I think we will be in great shape.

“Shout out to Tess Madgen for being an incredible leader in my life.”
