A third win straight at home is top of the list of the Fire’s Christmas list

December 20, 2019 | Townsville Fire news

The crowd in the Townsville Stadium came alive in the final quarter as the Fire polished off a 19-point final term to extinguish the Flames Sunday 15th December.

Bridget Carleton was at the centre of that scoring along with Darcee Garbin, who celebrated her 200 WNBL games milestone which she brought up in Friday’s loss to Southside Flyers.

Garbin finished with a double-double, shooting seven of 16 from the floor and bringing down 12 rebounds.

Game MVP Bridget Carleton also finished with a double-double, scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds including nine on the offensive end.

“It is fun to be on a winning streak here (at home) and hopefully we can finish it off this week before Christmas,” Carleton said.

This Saturday night the Fire will take on the Perth Lynx who are currently in 5th spot, the two sides met earlier in the season with the Fire taking the win in a thrilling overtime contest.

Coach Shannon Seebohm believes “There is not a team we can’t compete with and I really do feel defensively we have turned a corner the past two or three weeks we have won 2 of our last 3 games and are hungry to keep our home court winning streak alive this weekend”

To celebrate the Christmas Round this weekend the Fire have put the call out to the community to bring along a wrapped gift and place it under the tree at Townsville Stadium as part of the club’s Christmas drive, The entire team will then be spreading the Christmas cheer and delivering the gifts to local age care homes in Townsville just in time for Christmas.

“Giving back to the community especially at this time of the year is so important to all the players and something we are very proud to be apart of. I love Christmas and cant wait to spend Monday visiting and delivering gifts to the Age Care homes on Monday” Darcee Garbin said.

Santa will also be making an appearance at Saturday’s game. Be sure to bring the whole family along and celebrate the lead up to Christmas with the Townsville Fire.

Tip off tomorrow night is 6pm, Coach Shannon Seebohm has challenged his team to keep their defensive intensity high use the Fire fortress ( Townsville Stadium) to their advantage.

A win is top of the Christmas wish list for the Fire tomorrow night.
