Batkovic continues blistering form

January 24, 2017 | Townsville Fire news
JCU Townsville Fire captain Suzy Batkovic’s blistering form has been acknowledged with selection in her seventh WNBL Team of the Week. Having claimed a record-equalling fourth WNBL MVP in 2015/16, the 36-year-old could create history this season by drawing past former teammate Lauren Jackson with a fifth gong. During Friday night’s clash against Bendigo, Batkovic finished with 28 points and 14 rebounds against one of the competition’s most formidable front courts, leading the Fire to a 20-point win. https://twitter.com/TownsvilleFire/status/823713273547608064 Her purple patch has coincided with the Fire winning six of their past seven games – grabbing a top-four spot in the process – and the star centre now appears locked in a two-way battle with Perth scoring machine Sami Whitcomb for the league’s highest individual honour. Joining Batkovic in the WNBL Team of the Week was Opals point guard Leilani Mitchell, along with fellow forwards Sara Blicavs, Asia Taylor and Marianna Tolo. https://twitter.com/WNBL/status/823696830558969856 The Fire return to Townsville Stadium on Saturday night when they host the Flames from 7pm.
