College star inks 2 year deal with Fire

23 year old, 6FT Queenslander Courtney Woods will make her debut in the WNBL for the JCU Townsville Fire signing with the club for season’s 2020/21 & 21/22. Woods, a Brisbane native is returning to Australia after 5 years with the NIU Huskies in the MAC conference where she became the NIU All-Time Leader In Three-Pointers Made (323) the Second all-time at NIU in scoring with 2,216 points and is the current NIU season record holder for three-pointers made (105)

Fire Head Coach Shannon Seebohm believes Courtney is going to fit perfectly into the team for the upcoming season.

“I am excited to add a young talent like Courtney to our team for this season. She was a Queensland junior and has proven to be a tremendous scorer over the course of her college career. Her ability to shoot the ball is definitely going to add value to our team. I think she has a huge upside and am excited to coach her here in Townsville.”

“After 5 years of playing on the other side of the world, I am very excited to return home and be given the opportunity to begin my dream of being a professional basketball player in my home state.

The 2020/21 WNBL Season will begin November 20th 2020.

Courtney Woods joins Megan McKay,Nadeen Payne, Lauren Nicholson, Kate Gaze, Zitina Aokuso, Mia Murray and Shyla Heal.
