JCU Townsville Fire sign guard Stephanie Reid

The Fire welcome 23 year old guard Steph Reid to their team for Chemist Warehouse WNBL season 2020/21.

Reid played college basketball for the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, New York, playing for the Bulls. She was the MVP of the 2016 MAC Women’s Basketball Tournament in which the Buffalo Bulls women’s basketball team won their first MAC title and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time in the history of the women’s program. Reid has been a part of the Southside Flyers/Rangers program for the last 2 WNBL seasons.

Her 2019 NBL1 season for Frankston, saw Steph finish the season averaging some impressive numbers, providing 21.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game, with her scoring, assists and threepoint shooting percentage of 41% placing her in the league’s top 10 in each category. Her season was highlighted by her league-record 50 point explosion against Launceston.

“I think Steph is going to be a great fit in our program. She has performed at a very high level in the NBL1 & SEABL over the past two seasons and I know she is hungry for more opportunity to make her mark in the WNBL. I really like her ability to guard the ball in the full court and think she has the potential to develop into a great WNBL player within our program.” Head coach Shannon Seebohm, said.

Reuniting with Shannon, who coached Reid as part of his gold medal winning World Uni Games team in 2019, was a big draw card for Reid to make the move to Townsville

“I am so excited to be a part of the Fire this year! I am really grateful to have the opportunity to play for Shannon again and play with such a great group of ladies! I am also really excited to be a part of the Townsville community which I have heard so many great things about!” Reid said

The 2020/21 WNBL Season will begin in November 2020.

Reid is the 8th signing for the JCU Townsville Fire for the upcoming season, Reid joins- Lauren Nicholson, Shyla Heal, Kate Gaze, Mia Murray, Zitina Aukoso, Nadeen Payne, Megan McKay and Courtney Woods along with Development Player Aliza Fabbro.
