Townsville RSL to screen game two

The JCU Townsville Fire’s quest for a third WNBL championship in four years will be broadcast on Thursday night at the Townsville RSL.

With the Fire just one win away from the 2017/18 title, the series shifts to Melbourne with the Boomers trailing 0-1 and will be broadcast live and exclusive on Fox Sports 503 from 6.30pm (QLD time).

With the Fire linking up with Townsville RSL as their finals sponsor, members and fans can watch the game together at the club’s home away from home on Queensland’s biggest indoor TV screen.

“The atmosphere for the semi-final against Sydney Uni was terrific at the Townsville RSL,” Fire General Manager Richard Goodbody said.

“I would imagine it would be even better for the Grand Final with the championship on the line.

“Hopefully there is a terrific turn out.”

In front of a sold-out crowd, the Fire clinched game one of the series with a 69-64 victory at Townsville Stadium.

Dual championship winners Suzy Batkovic (16 points and 15 rebounds) and Cayla George (13 points and 10 rebounds) battled valiantly in the post, while Sydney Wiese stroked 14 points including 4/8 from distance.

Should a third game be required, the series will return to Townsville on Sunday, January 21 at 6pm with an exclusive members’ window open on Friday.

Tickets to the general public would then go on sale at 9am on Saturday morning.

The Boomers host the Fire at the Victorian State Basketball Centre on Thursday.
