Wrobel named BQ Coach of the Year

Dual WNBL championship winner Mark Wrobel has been named the 2016 Basketball Queensland Male Coach of the Year. A key member of the Fire’s coaching staff that claimed back-to-back WNBL titles, Wrobel, who also assisted Australia at their successful Under-17 World Championship campaign, was announced as the winner in Brisbane on Saturday night. During a successful evening for Townsville Basketball, Greg Vanderjagt was also named the Administrator of the Year, while Madi Crowley was announced as the Female Official of the Year. “Mark has been a vital component of the Fire’s coaching staff for the past three seasons and we’re delighted to see him rewarded in this manner,” club General Manager Richard Goodbody said. “He has a strong basketball I.Q and has earnt the respect of our playing and coaching group. His achievements with the Sapphires was a testament to the effort and dedication that he has put in. “We’d also like to congratulate Greg and Madi for their respective accomplishments." The qualifying period for the 2016 Basketball Queensland Male Coach of the Year took in the Fire’s title defence and the Sapphires’ gold medal.
