The JCU Townsville Fire are excited to announce that Lara McSpadden has re-committed to the Club for the next two seasons.

At 193cm, McSpadden re-joins Townsville after spending her first season with the club in 2020

Heading into her sixth WNBL season, Mcspadden is looking forward to continuing her development in Townsville under Head Coach, Shannon Seebohm and in the Fire’s program.

“I’m super excited to be coming back to Townsville, it was such a great year for the club last year and I can’t wait to be a part of that again! Having a core group of girls coming back is going to be a huge advantage for our team.

It puts us in the best position for an easier transition from preseason to the start of comp and give us a head start in creating on court relationships that suit our style of play. I loved the team in Townsville last year. Our players and staff are some of the most committed people in the WNBL and we all really believed that if we put the work in, we could win! Our fans are unmatched as well!!

We definitely have unfinished business, and I want to be a part of that through working on my game, and getting on court to do what I do well.

The Novocastrian was a part of Seebohm’s  Emerging Opal’s  Gold Medal winning team in 2019 at the World University Games, She has also donned the Green and Gold as a junior, helping the Australian under-17s win gold at the 2016 World Cup in Spain and finishing sixth at the under-19s on 2017 in Italy.

Fire Head Coach Shannon Seebohm is looking forward to having Lara return to the Fire for another 2 seasons,

“I have had the opportunity to coach Lara as both a junior and senior player and I am thrilled that we are able to have her back in Townsville again in 2021.”

“Lara is someone that I believe has tremendous upside and I am very excited to see her development continue within our program again this season”

With the retention of Mcspadden to next season’s line up, the Fire have retained 7 players from last years Grand Finalist team, Lara joins Lauren Nicholson, Zitina Aoukso, Nadeen Payne, Courtney Woods, Mia Murray, Steph Reid
